We visited the tiny village of Batu Putih in northeastern Sulawesi in hope to catch a glimpse of the rare Black Crested Macaques, a species endemic to this part of the island, in the nearby Tangkoko reserve. We were strolling around on Tangkoko's black beach until, without any sign or warning, the forest seemed to get extremely busy when an unexpected troop of at least 20 apes entered the scene. They were pretty laid back though and we were fortunate enough to spend a couple of minutes with these absolutely amazing creatures until they disappeared again.
